Our History

More than 100 awards for industry excellence. More than 115,000 happy and content owners and members. And it all began with the desire to establish a higher standard of excellence, quality and ethics that, to this day, remains a model for all others in the industry.

Shell Vacations LLC, an entity formed in 1998 to initiate the creation of the Shell Vacations Club program had originally entered the vacation ownership business in 1978 with Vistana Resort in Orlando, widely recognized as the single most successful vacation ownership venture in history.

After selling traditional vacation ownership for many years, it became obvious that vacation lifestyles were changing. Families wanted greater flexibility in the length of time they vacation as well as when and where they vacation. In response to this desire, the company introduced Shell Vacations Club (SVC) in 1999. Every night and all unit types at each resort are given specific point values. Using points as a form of currency, members use their vacation time for as little or as long as they desire, at the time of their choosing, and in the resort location and accommodations size of their choice.

Today, Shell Vacations LLC's over 1,500 employees operate 24 vacation ownership resorts in California, Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin, Canada, and Mexico. Shell Vacations LLC and its affiliates have been involved with the development, marketing, management and sales of these resorts throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Each vacation ownership project undertaken has been successful and profitable, generating universal respect. The founders have played prominent roles in the development and evolution of all aspects of the vacation ownership industry including such positions as Chairman of ARDA and Chairman of the ARDA Ethics Committee.
